Five Facebook Faux Pas by April Aragam

Facebook can be a great place to share photos and interesting stories about daily life, but could you be guilty of making some Facebook faux pas that are driving your friends crazy?

1. You stole your friend’s status
While it might seem flattering that you copy your BFF’s exact status and used it as your own because you think it’s awesome (and got a ton of attention), your BFF won’t think it’s cool at all. It probably took her some thought and creativity to come up with, so don’t snatch it. Instead, come up with your own unique greeting that reflects your personality.

2. You posted 117 photos from your afternoon at the park
Instead of posting every photo you took during a two hour outing, post the best 10 or 15. Your friends will be thankful they don’t need to scroll through the entire lot just to see the good stuff. If you post every photo you ever take, people might stop looking altogether. Your friends love you but they don’t really want to see every photo of you standing by the tree testing out flattering angles.

3. You countdown to your Italian summer vacation…daily
An Italian vacation is definitely exciting. All of your friends are uber-jealous and you kinda like that. But your friends will soon get bored with the discussion of your vacation if you give them a daily countdown. They might get the impression that you’re showing off and no one likes a show-off. Instead of counting down, find other things to talk about that don’t revolve around your summer vacay.

4 You “like” your own statuses
Newsflash: Of course you like your own statuses, you’re the one who wrote them. Stop hitting the like button on your statuses and let your pals do the liking. If no one is liking your status updates, it might be time to rethink what you’re talking about. Don’t forget to give your friend’s statuses attention. You’ll be more likely to get some attention in return.

5. You’re always there
Being logged into Facebook 24/7 makes it seem like your have no life. If you update your status every hour just to tell people you’ve gone to the library or finished your English test, they’re going to become bored. Instead, update only when you have actual news like how you aced your math final or got tickets to the upcoming rock concert you’ve been dying to go to. You might stay logged into Facebook chat so that you don’t miss anyone, but logging out gives them a chance to miss you and that’s not such a bad thing. People who are only around now and then are often more interesting than people who are always there.
